closer to the bay it's right near 50. western maryland and west virginia, a bit milder because of a rather thick cloud cover there. they're in the mid-40s. a few sprinkles on radar. where you see those patches of green, those are some sprinkles just to the west of front royal and making its way into the shenandoah valley, just now coming into page and shenandoah counties. our sunrise at 7:26 this morning. that's getting later and later. we fall back on november 6. we'll have our temperatures today climbing into the mid and upper 60s by midafternoon. so a mild afternoon coming up with some clouds building. more of a weak front coming in late afternoon that might trigger an isolated shower. that may linger into this evening. we'll look at that, your evening planner, in ten minutes. good morning, danella. how's the monday commute? >> good morning. i'm seeing a couple of accidents slowing you down. 295 north at the naval research lab, an accident there taking up the two right lanes.

and then your right lane blocked as you make your way towards the franconia springfield parkway. some delays as you're continuing north on i-95 and very slow as you make your way across. i'll give you a live look at fairfax county parkway. the lanes are tied up. maybe a good day to grab a couple of your friends and hop in that hov lane. i'm back in ten minutes with another look at your traffic. back to you both. a traffic alert in fairfax county. a ramp from gallows road to the outer loop of the beltway is expected to shut down sometime today. news 4's tracee wilkins joins us live in our area with more on what drivers need to know. could be a mess. tracee, good morning. >> reporter: they already shut down the ramp. they did it just a short while ago. let me show you the picture. crews making sure you don't have access down this ramp so they can begin their work. they're going to replace this ramp. detroy it and replace it. this is all part of the hot

lanes construction. here's a map. they're asking drivers to keep straight on gallows road and go ahead and take arlington boulevard and follow signage to the outer loop in that direction. folks who use gallows road prepare for possible delays as everyone gets used to this new change. i'm tracee wilkins live this morning in annandale. back to you in the studio. >> tracee, thank you. 6:03 now. today the trial will begin for the woman accused of murdering her coworker at a yoga store in maryland. brittany norwood is accused of killing jayna murray in march at the lululemon store in bethesda. norwood killed murray after murray found stolen merchandise in norwood's bag. the death toll is expected to climb this morning as rescue teams search for people still buried in a massive earthquake in turkey. the 7.2 magnitude quake hit the

cities of ercz and van the hardest. angie goff is live in the newsroom with footage. >> working with torch lights and using their bare hands, rescuers continue to work desperately to find survivors. new video from overnight shows several people were pulled from the rubble of the hundreds are feared to still be trapped under collapsed buildings. the powerful quake killed more than 200 people, and officials say that number could pass 1,000. more than 1,200 rescue workers are using everything from their hands and shovels to dig through what's left of dozens of buildings. officials are reaching out through social media, and the earthquake is the leading conversation online around the district. the state department targeted americans using its twitter account at travel.gov, telling u.s. citizens who need assistance how to contact turkish authorities or u.s. consulate adana. the u.s. consulate in turkey is sending out messages in turkish, sending out messages from

president obama and hillary clinton for people in the country. there have been close to two dozen aftershocks since the quake hit. the largest measured at 6.0. aid from romania and all over is coming in. turkey is deploying its military as well. >> thanks, angie. president obama is heading west. the president will be in nevada today pushing his $447 billion jobs bill. he'll also introduce new initiatives to help the economy, including a change in mortgage rules to make it easier for borrowers facing the loss of their home to readjust their rates. another major plan is a student loan initiative he'll unveil on wednesday in denver. neither of these moves requires congressional approval. so they could be put into place rather quickly. another bad week for the burgundy and gold. the new quarterback couldn't help washington's defense that gave up more than 400 yards in the loss to carolina. the skins held the panthers to just field goals early on, but then carolina exploded in the

third quarter, leading by as much as 13 points. redskins did try to claw their way back to within ten, but then late in the game john beck threw an interception, and that ended any possibility of a comeback. skins lost 33-20, and they're now 3-3 on the season. head coach mike shanahan says he was happy with beck's effort, but he was upset with himself after the loss. >> i was happy with his performance. i thought he did a good job. that's what you're hoping. the guy gets his opportunity to play and just keeps getting better. very disappointed in the loss. i've got to do a better job of getting these guys ready because they should have played better than that. >> linebacker london fletcher pulled his hamstring. wide receiver santana moss broke a bone in his hand. next week the redskins head north of the border. they'll play the buffalo bills in toronto.

the united states. renee nicole douceur will check into johns hopkins tonight for observation. she began experiencing vision, memory, and language problems while working at the national science foundation south pole research center. doctors say she had a stroke and should make a full recovery with proper treatment. a close call at bwi thurgood marshall airport. officials say a southwest airlines jet collided with a fuel tank over the weekend. the plane hit the fuel truck while coming in from orlando. officials say incidents like this one are very rare. the plane has been taken out of service while the crash is investigated. defense attorneys for the doctor charged with michael jackson's death will begin calling witnesses today. dr. conrad murray's attorneys are expected to blame the singer for his own death. defense lawyers are expected to call about 15 witnesses, including three medical experts, a police officer, and randy philips, the head of aeg live. murray's attorneys argue that jackson was pressured by

philips, whose company was promoting jackson's comeback concerts in london, to show up healthy and on time for rehearsals or else the tour might be cancelled. and janet jackson is rescheduling part of her australian concert tour so she can support her family during the trial this week. she was supposed to have three shows this week in melbourne. instead are she's consolidating them all into one performance next month. in a statement, jackson thanked her fans for their support and said her family needed to be together at this time. indy car racers held a memorial service in indianapolis to remember and honor one of their own. thousands of racing fans came out for a public memorial service yesterday for dan weldon. weldon died in a crash last week in las vegas. fans should remember the 33 years of happy memories weldon left them. apple is expected to post a

link on its website allowing people to view the private memorial held for the company's employees last week. meanwhile, steve jobs' new autobiography hits shelves today. jobs died october 5th. congresswoman gabrielle giffords is in north carolina for intensive therapy. she'll get treatment in asheville through november the 4th. giffords is recovering from a brain injury she suffered while she was shot outside a political event in tucson back in january. her office has not said whether she will run for re-election. donations are helping two families in frederick county, maryland, recover from a horrible crash. a community benefit concert was held in walkersville yesterday. nearly three months ago, 16-year-old jacqueline sheyuth

was one of three teenagers who died in the crash in maryland. money will go to funeral expenses for sheyuth and medical expenses for sawyer smith. tomorrow sawyer plans to return to walkersville high school for the first time since that crash. a special new memorial is being dedicated this afternoon at arlington national cemetery. it will honor the 14 jewish chaplains who have died during active military service. the memorial will sit next to already existing memorials for protestant and catholic chaplains. it marks the 45th anniversary by rabbis in the u.s. armed services. parents should avoavoid let kids use products with bpa in it. but a new study shows it should be parents who need to change their habits. pregnant women who ingest bpa

could give rise to higher behavior problems in girls. >> girls with a higher exposure to bpa during gestation had more depression, anxiety, hyperactivity, and aggression. >> the study found no link between kids' bpa levels after they were born and behavioral issues. researchers caution that more studies are needed to look at the long term health impact of bpa. >> the hunt is on for a deadly shark that killed a texas man off the coast of australia over the weekend. 32-year-old george wainwright was diving off the coast of perth when he was attacked. his friends tried to save him, but his injuries were too severe. australian authorities have now issued a catch to kill order for all great white sharks. some are unhappy about that because great whites are endangered species. maryland's black bear hunting season kicks off today.

the hunt is garrett and allegheny counties lasts through saturday. however, the hunt could end early if the quota of 55 to 80 bears is reached by the weekend. this year 260 hunters have been awarded permits. each year the state allows a limited number of black bears to be killed to control the population. the rangers shut down the cardinals offense to tie the world series at two games apiece now. starting pitcher derek holland allowed just two hits while striking out seven. mike napoli provided the offense for the rangers, hitting a two-run home run in the sixth, and the rangers cruised to a 4-0 victory. game tonight at 6:00. and then the series will move back to st. louis for game six and possibly game seven. it was a special weekend for a special virginia boy with a debilitating disease and a vivid imaginati imagination. 10-year-old lane arrived home to a crowd of family and friends, several storm troopers, and a

lady liberty is getting a high tech upgrade that will provide you with views of the city not seen in nearly half a century. they're installing web cams on the torch of the statue of liberty just in time for its 125th birthday. it will offer views of new york harbor as well as the tablet lady liberty is holding in her hand. the torch has been off limits to live visitors since 1960.

a look at the evening planner in ten minutes. here's a look at the monday commute. good morning, danella. >> good morning. traveling the inner loop of the beltway, an accident slowing you down just as you approach the i-95 interchange. if you're taking 270, you are jammed bumper to bumper heading south out of urbanna. those delays continue as you make your way towards clarksburg. once you get to clarksburg, you'll get a little break. those delays start again at father hurley south as you make your way towards gaithersburg. but things slowing as you make your commute. northern virginia, fairfax county parkway, you can see the lanes filling up. regular lanes as well as hov lanes starting to see congestion. your congestion starts in lorton. maybe best to hop on route 1 and avoid the mess. on the marc, two delays. penn south train number 505 six minutes, and train number 409 11

minutes. the ramp from gallows road to the outer loop of the beltway shut down and will be for the next two weeks. this is all part of the hot lanes project. tracee wilkins will have more coming up later in our news cast. the trial of the woman accused of murdering her coworker will start today. brittany norwood is accused of killing jayna murray inside a bethesda yoga store back in march. megan mcgrath is live with more on what's expected to happen today. megan, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, eun. this is a very strange and disturbing crime, one that receives a lot of media attention. for that reason, jury selection could take a day and a half. they have 300 people in the jury pool. they'll be questioned by attorneys about what they know with regard to this case, trying to see if they have any preconceived notions or connections that would prevent them from sitting on the jury. brittany norwood is accused of killing her lululemon coworker 

jayna murray back in march. norwood beat murray to death inside the store after the store closed for the evening. she then, they say, according to prosecutors, she cut herself, tied herself up in an attempt to try and cover up the crime. police say that norwood told investigators that she was also a victim and that two masked men sexually assaulted them and then killed murray. now, police say that story just simply fell apart. the dna evidence does not support it, and norwood was eventually charged with murder. once the jury selection is completed, we will move on to the trial phase and opening arguments. this trial could take two weeks. if convicted, norwood could get life in prison. jury selection again getting under way later on this morning. eun, back to you. >> megan mcgrath live in rockville for us this morning. megan, thank you. a man is behind bars this morning accused of murdering a cab driver. 40-year-old domingo ezirike was found shot to death inside his taxicab at anacostia avenue and

north ponds street saturday morning. police arrested rashad terrell slye. a friend of ezirike's told news 4 he worked for the silver cab company and was working late to make extra money for his children. police are shooting for the perpetrator of the deadly shooting. the victim was 20-year-old keenan lee. he was not a student at howard. the shooting seemed to stem from an earlier fight. it was not related to celebrations for howard university's homecoming this past weekend. and d.c. police are also trying to figure out if five robberies this weekend are connected. each happened sunday in northwest washington, and three involved guns. no one was hurt. police have not yet said if they have a similar description for the people wanted in each case. when kids in spotsylvania get out of school today, they're likely to see more police

around. it's all in response to an attempted abduction on friday afternoon on polaris court. a 9-year-old girl got off the school bus when a man approached her, chased her past a couple of houses. when she got close to her home, the suspect quickly turned around and ran off. right now in turkey, rescue teams are searching for survivors in the rubble of flattened buildings after a 7.2 magnitude earthquake. the worst damage is in the eastern cities of ercz and van near the iranian border. at least 217 people are dead, but there is fear the death toll could reach 1,000. rescue teams and survivors are dealing with harsh conditions, but the extreme cold is not keeping people from digging through the rubble, in many cases, by hand. the hard work has paid off with several rescues over the last 24-hour period. one person rescued today was able to call for help on his cell phone, but the red cross says many remain trapped.

this is more details on a story we already told you about. the president will talk about these changes in mortgage rules. out in nevada, one of the hardest hit markets in the country, a new revised program will make it easier for borrowers to switch to cheaper loans even if they have little to no equity in their homes. according to "the wall street journal," lenders could begin refinancing loans as soon as the 1st of december. the stock futures are pointing up right now, and google is looking to buy a competitor. cnbc's jackie deangelis has those stories and more. jackie, good morning. >> good morning to you, joe. i'm just watching the futures here, and we've actually ticked down slightly on the dow and the s&p at the moment. we're going to be watching that very close lichlt ly. as you mentioned, of course, investors once again tapping their eyes to europe. it's possible european leaders will reach a deal to solve the debt crisis. talks have been extended through wednesday. we get reports this week on housing, durable goods, consumer

confidence, and a glimpse at third quarter gdp, or how well the economy performed this summer. earnings don't let up either. 40% of the s&p 500 reporting this week. this morning we get numbers from caterpillar. the dow jones jumped 267 points on friday to 11,808. it's the dow's fourth straight weekly gain, and it's moved back into the black for the year. the nasdaq rising 38 points on friday to 2637. add google to the growing list of possible bidders for yahoo. reports say the internet search giant has talked to two private equity firms to finance a deal to buy its web rival. talks are preliminary, and google could end up deciding to do nothing. "the wall street journal" says google is at least interested in running ads across yahoo's website. and groupi ioon hits the ro today, pitching its ipo to investors big and small across

the country the next two weeks. management will hold meetings in new york, boston, l.a., and its hometown of chicago. they hope to boost the ipo, which could value the company between $10 billion and $12 billion on november 3rd. >> thank you very much, jackie. have a great day. the world's largest retailer is hoping that lower prices will bring holiday shoppers out in large numbers. in fact, earlier in the season, walmart is announcing a new holiday price matching strategy that will guarantee shoppers will get the lowest prices no matter when they buy during the season. here's how the program will work. shoppers who buy a product, whether on the store's website or in the stores between november the 1st and december 25th will then find the identical product for less at another retailer later will receive a gift card for that price difference. a change under center could not help the burgundy and gold. it turns out the defense needed
